Introducing Chinchilla Community Connexions

Chinchilla’s new multi-tenanted centre – 67-71 Middle Street, Chinchilla

The much anticipated Chinchilla multi-tenanted centre is very quickly coming to fruition, with an end almost in sight. We are very privileged and excited to be able to give a quick sneak peak at the new centre and a bit of an update as well.

This year has seen a massive volume of work undertaken by the Queensland Department of Communities, Child Safety and Disability Services (DCCSDS), major sponsors QGC a BG Group Company, and lead tenant Chinchilla Family Support Centre Inc. (CFS) to reach this very exciting moment.

The planning process was completed a few months ago with extensive consultation between, DCCSDS, QGC, and CFS resulting in many of the brilliant features encapsulated within the building. The shining stars of which are the multi-purpose commercial kitchen with adjoining function room, and a state of the art video conferencing facility.  Although, the purpose built spaces for community services delivery, the wide deck reaching into the gardens, and onsite parking also star within the building.

Hutchinson Builders, the successful tenderer for this project, have construction well underway. With the bulk of the “heavy” work completed, transport of this modular building is scheduled for this week. This leaves only the final fit-out and “plugging-in” to be finalised on site here in Chinchilla.

Currently we have commenced negotiations with several services who have expressed their interest in making new centre their home as well. And although our new home is much bigger than our old, the interest we have received from prospective tenants has assured us the new centre will be bustling with activity.

We are planning to move into the new centre over the Christmas/New Year break. The doors of our old home will close on Friday, 19th December 2014, and the new centre’s doors will open for the first time on Monday, 5th January 2015.

The Board and staff at CFS would like to say thank you to the Chinchilla Community who helped us throughout this project with feedback and ideas. This has been imperative to ensure the new centre delivered what our community needed and wanted. Even down to the new centre’s name. It was from a suggestion originating at the annual Chinchilla Show, that the name of the new centre was chosen: Chinchilla Community Connexions. This name represents everything that we know the new centre will be – a place of community, characterised by warmth and care, where connections are made, whether they are professional or with new and old friends and family.
