Conversations in English

Conversations in English (CinE) is a program of the Chinchilla Family Support Centre in cooperation with the Chinchilla Library. This friendship charity supports migrants in the following ways:

  • Connecting to other people, making friends with Australian locals and other migrants
  • Strengthening English language
  • Sharing current news & programs, knowledge and cultures
  • Learning the Australian way of life through local volunteers and guest speakers (e.g., Partners in Recovery, Queensland Ambulance Services (QAS), QCWA, Australian Bureau of Statistics)
  • Ensuring a smooth integration into the local community
  • Building quality life

The program started in October 2014 and has become a regional success story with sister CinE groups in Dalby, Miles and Tara. The CinE Chinchilla group operates with 40-50 members on average. Active members meet at the weekly meetings on Wednesdays 1.30 pm - 3.00 pm in the Chinchilla Library. The Group organises further programs occasionally and gets involved in local events, fostering its many connections to various organisations.

The program contributed to a positive and welcoming community approach towards migrants and is proud to have won the 2016 Queensland Regional Achievement & Community Award in the Access Community Services Cultural Diversity category.
